- [Susan Hamill Clark](https://northhill.org/team/susan-hamill-clark/): Susan Clark joined the North Hill Board of Advisors in 2025,  Ms. Clark retired from Ernst & Young in 2024 after a long career as an executive advisor and front line leader in Technology.  Throughout her career Susan worked with CIO's and other executive leaders responsible for technology strategy, innovation and operations. She led transformational initiatives focused on operating models, governance, outsourcing, margin improvement, vendor optimization, infrastructure and application consolidation across many industries. Ms. Clark spent many years in the Healthcare industry implementing new technology capabilities triggered by changes in Healthcare regulations. As the North America Head of IT for Philips Healthcare, Susan deployed digital solutions for Sales, Service, HR, Finance, and Supply Chain functions resulting in a 25% ROI to the Netherlands based organization.  Ms. Clark holds certifications in program management, six sigma, SAFE/Agile, advanced facilitation and resides in Nashua, New Hampshire where she is active with meals on wheels.
- [Lorri Lofvers](https://northhill.org/team/lorri-lofvers/): Lorri Lofvers joined the North Hill’s Board in 2025 as an Advisor. A seasoned Management Consultant, Ms Lofvers brings expertise in program oversight, strategy, planning, cross functional business transition, and operational excellence. In her work for systems integrators, niche firms, independently and in industry, she has managed diverse strategic and operational programs and projects, guiding leaders and teams from needs assessment through implementation for over 30 years. Her engagements are typically driven by growth, technology opportunities, and performance goals and range from risk assessments, quality programs, and continuity plans to new systems, processes and governance for revenue cycles, call centers, enrollment, claims, human resources, data, supply chain, and customer relationship management. Ms Lofvers client experience spans multiple industries, including healthcare, insurance, financial services, education, HR outsourcing, technology, government, and non profits. She drives communications and training planning and has taught Organizational Change, Process Improvement, Leadership Skills, Business Analysis, Development Methodologies, and Workshop Facilitation. A longtime Needham resident active in the community, Ms Lofvers currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Needham Historical Society. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
- [John Connelly](https://northhill.org/team/john-connelly/): John Connelly joined the Board in 2025. Mr. Connelly is currently a Partner and Vice Chair of the Construction & Public Contracts Group at Hinckley Allen, a business law firm, based out of the Boston office. His practice is focused on construction, real estate and general business matters. A lifelong Needham resident and an active member of the Needham community, John has been a Needham Town Meeting Member since 1990, and he served as Chair of the Needham Permanent Public Building Committee from 1998 to 2008. He has been a member of the Needham Finance Committee since 2009, serving as Chair during two separate terms. He is a past member of the BID-Needham Board of Trustees, and he currently serves on the BID-Needham Board of Advisors.  John is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cotting School in Lexington. John is a graduate of Noble & Greenough School, Yale College and Boston College Law School. John lives in Needham with his wife Cathy Shea. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
- [Peter Pingitore](https://northhill.org/team/peter-pingitore/): Peter Pingitore joined the Board in 2023. He is a partner in the law firm Pingitore & Fitzpatrick, LLC. He represents businesses and executives operating in a variety of market sectors, providing representation on litigation, employment, and day-to-day legal matters. Peter is a long-time Needham resident and participant in town government. He is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals (2026 - ), has served on the Town Financed Community Housing Oversight Committee (2023 – 2026) (Vice Chair), the Community Preservation Committee (2016-2023) (Chair 2019 – 2023), and the Needham Housing Authority Board of Commissioners (2008-2020) (Vice Chair 2009 – 2011 and Chair 2012 – 2016). He has been an elected Town Meeting Member since 2001.
- [Elizabeth Handel](https://northhill.org/team/elizabeth-handel/): Elizabeth H. Handel, M.D. is an experienced internist who ran a private practice in Internal Medicine from 1987 to 2021. She held multiple leadership roles at Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital in Needham, MA, including Past Acting President and Secretary Treasurer of the Medical Staff, as well as Chief of Medicine in 1997 and 2006.
- [Ernst Schaefer](https://northhill.org/team/ernst-schaefer/): Dr. Ernst J. Schaefer grew up in Old Lyme, CT and goes there in the summer. Ernie has been married to Mary Miller for over 50 years, and they are blessed to have three children and 7 grandchildren. He is a graduate of Harvard College, Dartmouth MedicalSchool (2-year program) and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (class of 1972). He did an internal medicine residency at Mt. Sinai and an endocrinology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health where he also served for 7 years as a senior investigator and head of the clinical service in theNational Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He then served for 30 years as the director of the Lipid Metabolism Laboratory at the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University and as an associate professor and distinguished university professor at Tufts University Schools of Medicine and Nutrition, and as the director of the Lipid and Heart Disease Prevention Clinic at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. It was his honor and privilege to work with many talented visiting scientists, endocrinology fellows, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students. He continues to serve as a collaborating investigator with the Framingham Heart Study, and as a faculty member at the Tufts University School of Medicine and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
- [Bill Mahoney](https://northhill.org/team/bill-mahoney/): Mr. Mahoney is a retired partner of Edelstein & Company LLP, a certified public accounting firm based in Boston. He founded the firm’s health care consulting practice in 1988, and under his leadership it has grown into a premier firm offering physician consulting services.
- [Steven Fischer](https://northhill.org/team/steven-fischer/): Steve Fischer is the former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a ten-hospital system in Eastern Massachusetts with annual revenue of more than $6 billion.
- [Bethany Mercer, Director of Operations](https://northhill.org/team/bethany-mercer-director-of-il-operations-and-corporate-capital/): Bethany Mercer, Director of Operations at North Hill is responsible for the overall operations of Crescent Heights on the North Hill campus. Bethany holds campus-wide executive responsibility over multiple areas including grounds & facilities, housekeeping, dining/catering, security, transportation, and guest services. As a fellow of the Larry Minnix National LeadingAge Leadership Academy, Bethany’s goal is to promote innovative approaches that address the challenges and opportunities of aging.
- [Mel Mahatme, Director of Systems and Technology](https://northhill.org/team/mel-mahatme-director-of-systems-and-technology/): In May of 2023, Mel Mahatme assumed the role of Director of Systems and Technology at North Hill. In this capacity, Mel provides strategic leadership in maintaining the robustness and security of North Hill's technology environment, introducing innovative solutions and leading North Hill’s digital and intelligence transformation. Before joining North Hill, Mel played a crucial role in building and managing the complex IT infrastructure of a Biotech company. With over a decade of experience in the long-term care industry, Mel served as the Director of IT at Epoch Senior Living and later as the Vice President of Technology at Benchmark Senior Living. In these roles, Mel strategically implemented outsourcing and cloud solutions, introduced innovative measures like corporate intranets, system optimizations and cybersecurity tools. Mel also has significant experience as the head of IT in the real estate industry. Holding numerous IT certifications and possessing a degree in Physics, Mel brings a wealth of expertise to the technology landscape.
- [Karalyn Bere, Vice President of Finance](https://northhill.org/team/karalyn-bere-vice-president-of-finance/): Karalyn Bere joined North Hill in September 2018 and currently serves as the Vice President of Finance, overseeing all financial operations. Partnering closely with all levels of the organization including the Trustee Finance and Audit Committees, Karalyn directs the fiscal functions of the North Hill Community and assures sound financial stewardship. Prior to joining North Hill, Karalyn served in various Finance, Accounting and Financial Analysis leadership roles at Tufts Medical Center and Hallmark Health System.
- [Susan Downey, Vice President of Healthcare & Compliance](https://northhill.org/team/susan-downey-vice-president-of-healthcare-compliance/): Susan is the Vice President of Healthcare & Compliance. Susan joined North Hill in 2022 and is responsible for campus healthcare services, organizational learning, memory care and compliance. She began her career as a Registered Nurse, working intermediate and critical care units at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Susan has her Nursing Home Administrators license and did her training at North Hill and is proud to be back at North Hill, where she began her love of healthcare. Susan has managed clinical care and program development for the New England Region of HealthSouth and served as both Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Kindred Hospital in Boston. She has worked in executive positions in the field of quality management, corporate compliance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
- [Dana Finizio, Director of Human Resources](https://northhill.org/team/dana-finizio-director-of-human-resources/): Dana Finizio joined North Hill in February 2020 on a part-time consulting basis and accepted the position of Director of Human Resources in May 2020.
- [Joe Frias, President and Chief Executive Officer](https://northhill.org/team/joe-frias-president-and-chief-executive-officer/): Joe Frias joined North Hill in 2017 as Administrator of Pines Edge Health Center, with growth into the role of Director of Healthcare in 2019, Executive Director in 2021, and President and CEO in 2023. As President and CEO, he sets and executes the vision and strategic direction of North Hill Communities, Inc. and its subsidiaries.
- [Russell Corsini](https://northhill.org/team/russell-corsini/): Russell Corsini was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2016. Mr. Corsini’s career began with The Gillette Company where he lived and worked as CFO in Argentina, Jamaica and Venezuela. He later became Worldwide Controller for the Company’s major product lines. Mr. Corsini then joined New England Business Service (NEB on the NYSE) as CFO and oversaw its growth to a mid-size public company. He finished his career as a Managing Director of Deloitte where he spent time in establishing its operations in India.
- [Suzanne Barth](https://northhill.org/team/suzanne-barth/): Suzanne Barth EVP and Chief People Officer Suzanne was elected as Advisor to the North Hill Board of Trustees in 2022. Suzanne is a seasoned human resources leader with strategic, operational and board skills. She’s a trusted business advisor and internal consultant to C-suite officers, leadership teams and board of directors. She is experienced in organizational design and human capital management to support business strategy, managing a millennial workforce, executive compensation, succession planning, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and employee engagement.
- [Paul Watanabe](https://northhill.org/team/paul-watanabe/): Paul Watanabe is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Institute for Asian American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He served on President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and as the first Chair of the U.S. Census Bureau’s National Advisory Committee on Racial, Ethnic, and Other Populations.
- [Tina Vasconcelles](https://northhill.org/team/tina-vasconcelles/): Ms. Vasconcelles has continued to stay engaged in her community in leadership positions in many organizations in Wellesley. She was President of the Wellesley Service League and currently sits on the Executive Board as Sustainer Co-Chair. She also is a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee at the Wellesley Country Club and is the Treasurer of the Wellesley Chapter of AFS, the intercultural exchange student program. She is also a committed volunteer of Relay for Life, the major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which takes place in Needham every May.
- [Howard Rubin](https://northhill.org/team/howard-rubin/): Howard Rubin has served on the Board of Advisors since 2015. Mr. Rubin serves as Managing Member and the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Midwood Capital. Mr. Rubin is primarily responsible for all of the non-investment activities of the Investment Manager including fund accounting, client service and marketing and compliance. Prior to joining Midwood Capital in early 2012, Mr. Rubin was the Managing Member and Chief Operating Officer of Tara Hill Capital Management LP, a Boston-based US long/short equity hedge fund firm he helped form in 2009.
- [Amy Reich Weil](https://northhill.org/team/amy-reich-weil/): Amy Reich Weil became a North Hill Advisor in 2017 and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2018. Ms. Reich Weil is Founder and Partner at Kertzman & Weil, LLP, a practice focused on real estate law including buying, selling and financing residential properties, condominium conversions and land conservation. Ms. Reich Weil serves on the Adjunct Faculty at Babson College for the Department of Accounting and Law.
- [Francis Nemia](https://northhill.org/team/francis-nemia/): Francis Nemia was elected to the Board of Advisors in 2019. Mr. Nemia has provided IT and Financial enterprise risk management and assurance services throughout his career. His areas of focus have included IT operations, IT and Financial transformation, financial process assessment, cyber security, change management and quality control.
- [Susan Mellace](https://northhill.org/team/susan-mellace-chair/): Susan Mellace has been a North Hill Trustee since 2015, currently serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Ms. Mellace teaches accounting and finance at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA.
- [Nancy Hoffmann – Chair](https://northhill.org/team/nancy-hoffmann-vice-chair/): Nancy Hoffmann, CPA became a North Hill Advisor in 2017 and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2018. She currently serves as the chairperson of the North Hill Finance Committee.
- [David Hansen](https://northhill.org/team/david-hansen/): Mr. Hansen has experience managing an entrepreneurial enterprise as well as a large complex organization. Prior to forming DNH Partners, he was Executive Vice President of D2Hawkeye, Inc., prior to its successful sale in 2009 to Verisk Health, a subsidiary of Verisk Analytics, Inc., a publicly traded company. He remained with Verisk Health as Executive Vice President until June of 2012. Prior to joining D2Hawkeye he co-founded Falcon Capital Partners, a private investment and consulting company. Falcon’s successes included Capella Senior Living—an organization that provided investment, restructuring and advisory services to private investors and financial institutions in the long term care industry.
- [Kevin Grimes](https://northhill.org/team/kevin-grimes/): Kevin Grimes became a North Hill Advisor in 2017 and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2018. Mr. Grimes is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Grimes & Company, Inc., one of the country’s leading Registered Investment Advisory Firms. His professional role includes determining the strategic direction of the company, leading the Investment Team and Executive Council, as well as serving clients of the firm.
- [Richard (Rick) Davis](https://northhill.org/team/richard-rick-davis/): Richard (Rick) Davis became a North Hill Advisor in April 2016 and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2017. Mr. Davis is retired from his position of 30 years as CEO of Provider Insurance Group, an independent insurance agency.
- [Sarah Creed Vice Chair](https://northhill.org/team/sarah-creed/): Sarah Creed was elected to the Board of Advisors in 2018. Ms. Creed also served on the professional advisory committee for Home Health at North Hill from 2015-2018. She is the Director of Nursing at Good Shepherd Community Hospice. She oversees the nursing department at the hospice, and is involved in clinical operations and developing policy and procedure as it relates to patient care. Ms. Creed Schmidt has been working with Good Shepherd for over six years.
- [Patricia A. Cusack, Director of Sales and Marketing](https://northhill.org/team/patricia-a-cusack-director-of-sales-and-marketing/): Ms. Cusack joined the North Hill community in December of 2017 and serves as the Director of Sales and Marketing. She is responsible for overseeing the sales and marketing efforts of the Crescent Heights community. Ms. Cusack has been engaged in the senior living industry for over 20 years, and during her tenure has served as an Executive Director of an Alzheimer’s community, Regional Director of Sales, and Vice President of Business Development for various senior living companies across the country. Ms. Cusack also had her own marketing consulting business specific to opening new independent and assisted living communities in Massachusetts.
